Dancin' In the Dark or Powerless

Saturday was my daughter's 3rd birthday party (her actual birthday was Sunday.) A good time was being had by all when it began to rain. We moved the party into the garage. Good tunes, good beer, good pizza, things were good. Then, the tornado sirens went off. Checking the news, there were tornadoes spotted to the southeast of us. We were under a serious warning.

Most of the party moved to the basement, while some of the guys stayed outside, observing the impressive cloud formations rolling in to our area. Finally, a funnel cloud was spotted close by and all the stragglers hightailed it to the basement where we waited out the storm while one of us got wheather updates on her smart phone. All of the sudden, the power goes off for the first time since we've lived here. I scrambled for flashlights and the storm passed. Sounds scary, huh?

We then found out that a tornado passed directly through my town, Monee, IL , about 6 blocks north of me. Video here: http://www.imadeamesss.com/2008/06/tornado-in-monee-il.html (I didn't shoot the video, by the way. I was cowering in the basement. Also, the guy in the video has a really strong midwestern-Chicago accent. I think I speak a little less Dennis Franz-ey than that. Also, again, by the way, the tornado was an F-2, so the guy was pretty close.) It destroyed two high-tension towers causing massive damage. We didn't have power from 6:00PM on Saturday until 8AM on Monday. I was keeping my basement dry and my food cold via a generator. Damn you expensive gas!

Sunday, we took my daughter to see Kung Fu Panda. It was her birthday and we wanted to keep it as normal as possible, considering we had no power. By the way, that movie was awesome. Jack Black was fantastic. The story line was creative, and surprising. I give it an A-.

Anyway, Happy Birthday, Addy. Thanks for weathering the storm, don't pardon the pun.

Wow, I can't believe she's 3 already!! If I remember correctly, she was only like 4 months old when we "met", right? Anyway, happy birthday, Addy!

I wonder if your daughter will always remember this birthday because of the tornado.

Addison will always be able to remember her third birthday as the day the tornado came through town. Happy Birthday! BTW, she shares her Birthday with new baby ODonnell!!!

That's freakin' crazy about the tornado! I was checking the weather channel the day after that happened in your town and I saw the video. I clicked on it out of morbid curiosity (I'm TERRIFIED of tornados) and I saw it was in Monee. I almost shit myself. I'm glad you're safe. That's so scary.

Congrats on the birthday. Just telling you I'm not dead, in case you were like, worried or whatever.

Peace.

I was kind of off the radar last week, so this is news to me! I'm glad you all are safe and the birthday party continued despite the tornado. I used to have to deal with those blasted things, but they don't come around here too often.

We saw Kung Fu Panda too. I thought the previews were better than the movie, but oh well. It was amusing nonetheless.

Leezer, baby O'Donnell was born just after midnight on Monday, so he's one day off TF's. Sorry for the comment to Leezer Dennis Franzey. (Is that like Fonzie's midwestern cop cousin?)
